CFO Magazine Is Honored as Magazine of the Year
ASBPE also Presents CFO with Six First-Place Awards

WASHINGTON, DC. -June 20,2003-CFO magazine was named Magazine of the Year at the American Society of Business Publication Editors’ (ASBPE) national conference last night. The Boston-based monthly for senior finance professionals also led all magazines with six gold awards in ASBPE’s highly competitive 25-year-old editorial and graphic competition.

In choosing CFO, the 2002 Magazine of the Year for the over-80,000-circulation category, ASBPE’s judging panel noted the tough journalistic stance that CFO’s coverage took in examining recent accounting scandals and reforms. “They pulled no punches…strong and not apologist,” said one judge, adding, “The design, flow, and mix are tops.”

CFO Publishing Corporation’s quarterly CFO IT was named the best-designed new publication in the large-publication division, and also received a silver award in the best-new-publication competition. The awards were presented at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

In addition to the Magazine of the Year designation and CFO IT's two awards, CFO won eight other ASBPE honors, including:

--A gold award for its four-month-long series (August through November) on the challenges to corporate finance in the wake of scandals involving Enron and other companies.

--A Gold award for the October 2002 special section on corporate governance reforms.

--Gold awards for its monthly technology column; for its regular column on deal-making; and for a graphic feature spread.

--A Silver award of a September news article on defense-industry finance.

--Two Bronze awards, for the magazine's government coverage, and for its regular news section.

The Awards of Excellence program sponsored by ASBPE, a 40-year-old organization of editors and writers, is the most competitive in the business press, drawing more than 2,200 entries.
